What are the various height gain factor?

There are number of factors which decide your body height such as genetic factors, physical activity, posture, nutritional level and hormonal level. These factors decide the growth of the body and height of a person. Among these entire factors, genetic factor play a crucial role, as scientific studies shows that 60-80% of difference between statures is due to genetic factor and rest 20-40% is due to other factors. Parental body size has direct influence over the child’s growth potential. It becomes difficult to increase height if parental height is of short stature. Along with genetic factor, there are some non-genetic factors such as environmental factors, climate, birth weight, dietary habits and lifestyle. We are discussing here various factors which affect the body height:
1). Genetics: Genetics play a crucial role behind the stature of a person. Genetics is the field of biology, which studies trait inheritance from patients to off-spring. In 60-80 % of cases person with short height has generally short stature parents. There are various charts are available which help to predict the height on the basis of mid-parental height. A child or a person whose height is still low then the predicted height can be due to other factors than genetic make-up such as poor nutrition or prolong illness.
2). Ethnicity: It is notice that person with different ethnicity has different growth rate. For example Asian and Chinese people are shorter and lighter when compared with Caucasians or African-Caribbean peoples. Due to difference in environment and genetic makeup there is difference seen in different ethnicity.
3). Birth Weight: Birth weight is one of the most accessible and reliable indicators and reason behind short stature. It is observed that infant of small size has lead to short stature and have higher risk of morbidity. A baby’s weight at birth is strongly associated with mortality risk during the first year, and to a lesser extent, with developmental problems in childhood and the risk of various diseases in adulthood, including cardiovascular disease and some cancers according to a recent systematic review.
4). Hormones: Human growth hormone (HGH) is responsible for the body growth. Our body naturally produces growth hormone in the pituitary gland and these hormones are responsible for regeneration and cell growth. Growth hormone level in both sexes is at its peak level during puberty time and start dropping after 20’s.
5). Nutrition: Balanced diet is helpful for body growth but our body needs a specific nutritional requirement to grow muscles, bones and body height. It is essential to add vitamins, mineral, proteins and calcium in your daily diet. Malnutrition and hyper activity of metabolism can also a cause of the short stature.
6). Environment: Environment in which person lives, shows a direct effect on his/her height. Growing conditions such as pre-natal conditions and during growing years plays a crucial role in body height, skin, texture, weight and intelligence. Most of the time variations are seen among traits due to environmental factors.
